Philly is Baltimore

from facebook

There are so many similarities between what is happening in Baltimore and what is going on here in Philly. We stand with the Baltimore Protestors and Uprising. Bring signs, drums and your voices.

Sabotage of OCF Gentrification in South Philly

from anarchistnews

We wrecked the locks and windows of two empty OCF Realty properties near 20th and Reed in South Philadelphia. We did this because we are tired of living in a system that constructs houses for the rich, while poor and working class people get nothing but more police, more jails, more budget-cuts, more misery. Following the lead of the rebels of Ferguson and Baltimore, this is our small way of fighting back: causing economic damage to the property and capital of the rich. These tactics are not only possible, they are practical. We hope others join us in carrying out more actions over time.

JUSTICE FOR REKIA BOYD!! STP stands with SOUL in demanding an end to violence against Black women

from Serve the People PHL

With the nation’s eyes turned towards militant resistance in Baltimore, Saturday, 25 April, STP – PHL took to the streets of West Philadelphia, joining comrades from SOUL and other organisations to voice collective outrage over the acquittal of the off-duty police officer who murdered Rekia Boyd.

Under SOUL’s directive, comrades used the internationally-attended sporting event known as the Penn Relays to cause major disruptions to automotive traffic on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus, performing sit-ins, die-ins and street blockades in direct confrontation with the festive atmosphere of the events. “We are not sorry for inconveniencing you,” demonstrators asserted. “Being Black in this country is an inconvenience.”

Last Night in Baltimore

from anarchistnews

Unsurprisingly, corporate media covering Saturday’s events in Baltimore are covering up the extent of last nights riot. In our opinion primarily due to the fact that what took place was a direct result of the State’s complete tactical failure policing the streets. Were they to acknowledge what ACTUALLY happened would be to admit to all of America (as they were watching or reading on their screens) that they have no ability to control us when we really rage. They simply don’t have enough pigs.

No doubt we will see top level reshuffling of whoever orders the pigs around in Baltimore as a result, because they fucked up big time last night. Or we will be seeing the National Guard on the streets of Baltimore by next week.

The State is terrified of the possibility of this being THE trigger. The one they can’t contain.

On Saturday April 25th, the Baltimore Police Department along with the Maryland State Troopers had no control whatsoever of the vast majority of downtown Baltimore till well past midnight.

The 8th Annual May Day USA March, Rally, and Celebration

from facebook

MAY 1 – The 8th Annual May Day USA March, Rally and Celebration here in Philly at Clark Park!

FROM THE 8-HOUR DAY TO THE FIGHT FOR $15 – WHEN WE ORGANIZE WE CAN WIN!

Unbeknownst to many Americans, May Day was founded in the United States after the nationwide general strike for the eight-hour workday that started on May 1, 1886. The annual May Day USA Education Committee celebration – taking place at Clark Park in West Philly this year – highlights this hidden labor history as well as today’s struggles and past labor struggles honored by the Elmwood Park Labor Monument right here in our own City of Brotherly Love! [See below for more on the Labor Monument.]

The 8th annual “May Day USA March, Rally and Family Celebration” on Friday, May 1st 2015, kicks off at 2PM with a rally and march – co-run by our allies at “Fight for $15” and “$15 Now” – calling for a livable wage for all workers — starting in front of the McDonalds at 40th & Walnut Streets and ending up at Clark Park (43rd Street & Baltimore Avenue) where our celebration will begin at 3PM. The Clark Park rally and celebration will include a DJ, live music, singers, poets, a BBQ by the Veterans For Peace Chapter 31 “Precision Grill Team,” children’s entertainment, and an array of notable speakers from Labor and other allied organizations in Philly. We will also be awarding the annual Aggie Moran Human Rights Awards.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AND JOIN US!

Please show up at 1pm for an important pre-rally, following by court proceedings and a press conference/demonstration afterwards. More information on this page as things develop.

Disempower, Disarm, Disband the Police: Building an Anti-Police Movement

from facebook

Join Unity & Struggle NYC, Trayvon Martin Organizing Committee Philly, and Action Against Black Genocide for a panel on building and strategizing an abolitionist anti-police movement. Unity & Struggle will briefly present an overview of the political moment we are in to set the context for a discussion of how a “disempower, disarm, disband” campaign would look in Philly. Recommended (but not required) reading is Unity & Struggle’s “Ferguson and Beyond” zine, available on their website.

NYC: Anarchist Convergence

from facebook

With the appearance of a contemporary anti-state region in Rojava, the vehemence of recent anti-police movement across the US, and global disengagement with/mistrust in hierarchical governance, the time seems ripe for anarchist systems of organization. We would like to call this convergence so that geographically separated anarchists can meet face-to-face and discuss their projects and ideas for driving the movement forward. We want to welcome groups and spaces from out of town and look forward to learning from you and sharing the strategies behind NYC-based projects.

We’ll have a very brief spokes council where people can talk about the projects they are working on, and then we’ll break out and have an opportunity to talk casually and make connections with other people working in tandem.

North Philly Peace Park Fenced In

from facebook

Today [April 10 2015] a fence suddenly appeared around the North Philly Peace Park despite promises from everyone including City Council President Darrell Clarke that a permanent home would be found (and that construction wouldn’t start until September at the earliest). We need people to mobilize to get the word out about what is happening. We complain about gentrification and the marginalization of low income people, well, here’s a chance to actually stop it from happening.

The Peace Park has been providing fresh produce to what is essentially a food desert in the heart of North Philly. Residents in the area and the park itself are being pushed out to make way for a “revitalization project.” The Peace Park is a symbol of community and people power, and the city’s corporate interests are only too happy to destroy it. Please reach out to any media contacts you may have and ask them to contact Tommy Joshua at younghuey@gmail.com for detailed information about this situation. Or, feel free to contact the North Philly Peace Park directly through their facebook page.

NYC Anarchist Book Fair 2015

from anarchist book fair 2015

NEW YORK—Direct democracy, anarchism in immigrant New York, and the state-less revolution in war-torn northern Syria are just a few of the topics visitors can explore at the 9th Annual NYC Anarchist Book Fair, which is returning to Judson Memorial Church on Sat., April 18, 2015. This year’s book fair will host 19 talks, panels, and workshops devoted to anarchist theory, history, and the many ways that activists today are challenging the state and capitalism.

The Book Fair will take place from 11am to 6:15pm at Judson Memorial Church, 55 Washington Square South, in Manhattan. Although most presentations will be held at Judson Church, some will take place at the New School, 86 Fifth Avenue, a short walk north of Judson Church. The schedule of talks, panels, and workshops is posted at http://anarchistbookfair.net/; please check the website for updates on times and locations.

“Today, millions of people around the world are tired of the state, of an economic system that benefits only the rich, of a political order that destroys communities, enforces racism and homophobia, and turns our lives into a Darwinian struggle,” says Rae Valentine, a book fair organizer. “Anarchism is an incredibly diverse movement reaching all corners of the world. This year’s Book Fair highlights people’s struggles from South Sudan to Native American nations to anti-fascist action in Europe. We’ll also be looking at the rich heritage of anarchism in New York and how anarchists are organizing in our city today.”

The NYC Anarchist Book Fair is free to the public. It provides a safe space for activists to meet and organize and where the anarcho-curious can get informed about the movement against capitalism and the State. The Book Fair will feature exhibits by over 60 anarchist publishers, artisans, and organizers.

From Corporate Law to Climbing Barbed Wire

from facebook

Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) co-founder Wayne Hsiung was once a corporate attorney and a Northwestern law professor, specializing in law and economics. But on spare weekends and evenings, he was also doing something none of his colleagues could have imagined: sneaking into animal farms with a camera in the dead of night, and rescuing animals from nightmarish abuse.

In this talk, Hsiung will:

– discuss the findings of a recent open rescue exposing shocking cruelty at a “humane” Whole Foods farm;
– explain the importance of open rescue to both the history and future of animal advocacy; and
– show how DxE’s campaigns have provoked public consciousness (including coverage in The New York Times and CNN), inspired nonviolent direct action in over 95 cities and 20 countries, and saved the lives of individual animals such as Mei Hua.

Attack on OCF Realty car

from anarchistnews

We noticed an OCF Realty car parked in a gentrifying neighborhood in West Philadelphia. OCF Realty is actively furthering gentrification in multiple neighborhoods and has been the target of anti-gentrification actions in the past.

We went out one night last week and slashed two of the car’s tires. This took under two minutes.

Slashing tires is a fast and easy way to cause damage to our enemies and create a small disruption in the timeline of gentrification. This will go quickly with a sharp knife stabbed with some pressure into the wall of the tire. Expect a loud, short hiss once the tire is punctured.

Let’s let the yuppies and developers know they are not welcome.
Let’s create environments hostile to gentrification.
