Phil Africa Passed Away Under Suspicious Circumstances

from On A Move

On Saturday, January 10th 2015 Phil Africa, revolutionary, John Africa’s First Minister of Defense, and beloved brother, husband and father, passed away under suspicious circumstances at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas, PA. On Sunday, January 4th Phil Africa wasn’t feeling well and went to the prison infirmary. Though he wasn’t feeling well, other inmates saw Phil Africa walking, stretching and doing jumping jacks. Hearing that Phil was in the infirmary MOVE members drove up to visit him and were denied a visit by the prison. While they were visiting with Delbert Africa, Phil was secretly transported to Wilkes Barre General Hospital where he was held in total isolation, incommunicado for five days.

Rally Against Racism & Repression

from facebook

[January 16th 5pm 30th Street Station]

Justice for Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Brandon Tate-Brown, and all victims of Killer Cops! Defend Our Movement from Repression!

Ferguson stood up and resisted the murder of Mike Brown, and youth all around the country stood up and answered the call. But now the police are fighting back with a public witch-hunt as well as the harassment and arrest on trumped-up charges of TMOC and other organizers around the country for taking a stand against police murder in NYC.

We talk back. We turn up. We stand tall. With Ferguson-for Brandon, for every black body in America robbed of its right to live- for every injustice that we are growing sick and tired of. We are done with your police/media slander campaigns.

Mike Brown is still dead.
Darren Wilson is still free.
The Grand Jury was a sham.
We’re still mad!
We’re still demanding justice!

We are sick with anger.
It is too late for containing it.
Not another. Not another. Not one more.
We will turn down for nothing until justice is OURS!

Hands Up – Fight Back!

Help Jordan pay medical costs from philly ferguson protest

from YouCaring

Jordan is a  26 year old Hudson Valley NY resident, musician, naturalist, anarchist and environmental activist…

On August 23rd Jordan was arrested while attending a demonstration in solidarity with those protesting in Ferguson, MO following the murder of Michael Brown. He was shot with a taser gun, tackled to the ground, arrested, and non-consensually brought to the hospital for injuries that the police had inflicted.  He has since been slapped with a large emergency room bill, and he is also being forced to pay $1,500 in other fees.

We have been making every effort to fundraise for Jordan and have already raised some money.  However, we still have a large amount left to raise.  Please help us out to whatever extent you are able!  If you would prefer to mail a check, please contact us for a mailing address.  Thank you!

White Power Show Booked in North Philly For January 10th CANCELLED

from Philly Antifa

sadhitler

Updated 1/8/2015: We at Antifa Philadelphia are happy to announce that the show has been cancelled. Apparently the attention drawn to the show by Antifascists was picked up on by several local media outlets, which led to the Mayor Nutter’s office calling the Outlaws directly and asking them to cancel the show, citing safety concerns.

Naomi Murakawa presents The First Civil Right: How Liberals Built Prison America

Sun, January 11, 7pm – 8pm Wooden Shoe Books 704 South Street

The explosive rise in the U.S. incarceration rate in the second half of the twentieth century, and the racial transformation of the prison population from mostly white at mid-century to sixty-five percent black and Latino in the present day, is a trend that cannot easily be ignored. Many believe that this shift began with the “tough on crime” policies advocated by Republicans and southern Democrats beginning in the late 1960s, which sought longer prison sentences, more frequent use of the death penalty, and the explicit or implicit targeting of politically marginalized people. In The First Civil Right, Naomi Murakawa inverts the conventional wisdom by arguing that the expansion of the federal carceral state-a system that disproportionately imprisons blacks and Latinos-was, in fact, rooted in the civil-rights liberalism of the 1940s and early 1960s, not in the period after.

Philly Fights Alongside Ferguson

“We’re also interested in taking steps toward creating a collective memory of opposing the state, white supremacy, patriarchy and capital that focuses on our ability to revolt and fight instead of seeking out narratives that prioritize our victimhood within the system.”

A Nuanced Anti-civ Stance

from Deep Green Philly

Regarding some of the contradictions of being anti-civ or critical of industrial society (or, how to negotiate certain “facts on the ground”):

There’s an Upworthy video making the rounds on facebook entitled ‘5 Years’ Worth Of Photos Show How Testosterone Affected One Person’s Life’. This heartwarming video shows a FTM trans person’s journey of self-realization. Of course a medical marvel like this would not have been possible 40 years ago, and yet here’s the thing – it’s not clear if it will be possible 40 years into the future if climate disruption, global warming, and resource wars take the huge toll that many are predicting.

Grounded in Resistance Winter Speaking Tour: Grassroots Mobilizing for Animal Liberation

reposted from Grounded in ResistanceAnimals in captivity or whose habitats are being destroyed live in a constant state of resistance. When their lives are threatened, they kick and bite and scream. When their homes are taken, they attempt to rebuild and regroup. When they are confined, they desperately grasp for an existence beyond captivity. Animals fight to live, to be wild, and to be free, and their fight is always urgent. If we are fighting in solidarity with animals, where is our urgency? What are we missing in our movement for animal liberation?

An effective movement for animal liberation must challenge the systems in which animal use is rooted — capitalism, colonialism, imperialism, and patriarchy. Our organizing must be informed by solidarity and inspired by the passion with which animals fight. We need a path forward that is forged through on-the-ground actions, movement building, strategic campaigning, a diversity of tactics, and coalition organizing. We need a movement that is grounded in the urgency of the animals’ own resistance.

Join us for a presentation and discussion about effectively resisting the use of animals and embracing the urgency of the fight for animal liberation. We will explore the recent history of animal advocacy and share our experiences of organizing within the context of the current state of the movement, and discuss ideas about how we can work together for a stronger animal liberation movement — a movement that is driven by grassroots activism, resistance against all of the systems that support animal exploitation, and solidarity with the animals and others who fight for liberation and self-determination. We will also share our plans for next summer and invite you to take part. We are working to create a summer of regional campaign development and nationwide mobilization of grassroots activists, and we look forward to talking with you about how your community wants to be involved.

New Years Eve Noise Demonstration

flier
2014 has been an inspirational year, all over the world people have rose up together against the systems of control that dominate their lives. From Ayotzinapa students fighting for the return of their missing friends, to anarchists in Greece fighting for the education of their imprisoned comrade. From the Unist’ot’en defending their territories from colonial pipeline development, to Ferguson, Missouri where a wave of riots inspired the whole country to take a stand against police.

We would love to take a small opportunity this New Years Eve to celebrate and show our solidarity with all the struggles that warm our hearts and bring us a step closer to freedom. We’re calling for a short march and noise demonstration this New Years Eve, as a way to celebrate the revolts this year has brought and to break the isolation the state uses to punish those labeled criminals.

Prison is a tool the state uses to isolate captives and fracture communities. As long as we strive for freedom prisons will be an obstacle we must overcome. A noise demonstration is a small but meaningful show of solidarity with everyone locked up inside, letting them know they are not alone and not forgotten.

Meet us on New Years Eve at Franklin Square at 6pm. Bring friends, banners, leaflets, and anything that makes noise!

Until the world is free of cages!

Justice For Brandon Tate-Brown

from gofundme:

Brandon Tate-Brown was wrongfully and fatally gunned down by a Philadelphia Police Officer on Dec. 15th.  The details of the story and circumstances surrounding his death do not add up. Everyone who knew Brandon knows that he is innocent. He was on a good path to living a great life and it was tragically shortened at the young age of 26. He was a wonderful young man with a good heart and a bright future.  We need to get justice for Brandon. All doantions will go to Brandon’s family for funeral costs and to fight for justice. Please donate and share! Let’s help his family in their time of need.
Brandon’s life matters!
