We will gather At Ahimsa House, Monday the 12th at 7:30 to share food and a fire circle. Please come to support our relatives in North Dakota who are praying for the protection of their sacred sites, water and land to not be destroyed by the Dakota Access Pipeline.

While the Iron is Hot: a workshop on the ongoing prison strike

A nationwide prison strike is beginning on September 9. Movement for No Society is offering this workshop to consider prison strikes in context of the struggle for liberation today.

Presenters will give report backs on the events and organizing that led up to the strike, followed by a discussion on the following questions:

▲ What are some ways to get involved and contribute to this struggle?
▲ What is the history of similar prison actions?
▲ How have prison uprisings in the past decade contributed to making prisons a focal point of the struggle against white supremacy and capitalism?
▲How can we be thinking about anti-prison organizing beyond the prison abolitionist framework that’s currently getting mainstreamed?

We invite people to share their experiences with agitating/ organizing against prisons as well as their ideas for moving forward.

Sept 9th Noise Demonstration in Solidarity with Prisoners on Strike

“This is a call to end slavery in America. This call goes directly to the slaves themselves. We are not making demands or requests of our captors, we are calling ourselves to action.”

Come out September 9th to show solidarity with prisoners across the country as they strike against prison slavery. We’ll be making noise at the Juvenile Justice Service Center to let prisoners know they have support on the outside, to high-light on the actions prisoners themselves are taking, and to show we’re watching and will not stand by as prison staff retaliate against individuals or deny them their collective right to organize.

Prisons are devastating our families and communities to turn a profit, this strike can end that.

“When we abolish slavery, they’ll lose much of their incentive to lock up our children, they’ll stop building traps to pull back those who they’ve released. When we remove the economic motive and grease of our forced labor from the US prison system, the entire structure of courts and police, of control and slave-catching must shift to accommodate us as humans, rather than slaves.”

Imprisonment affects all of us. With new prisons being built across Philadelphia and Pennsylvania we see more immigrants are being detained and deported, more of our loved ones are being held in pre-trial detention with extremely high bail, more of our youth are being locked away. Those who make it out are barred from access to social services, face with employment discrimination, and monitored by parole and probation officers.

Let’s show comrades and family inside we have their back.

This is short notice because it was intentionally kept secret, but The Inquirer is reporting that Donald Trump will be attending a private meeting with conservative Black voters in the banquet hall of the Greater Exodus Baptist Church.

The hall was rented out by the Trump campaign. Trump was not invited by anyone associated with Greater Exodus, nor anyone at all as far as we know.

A demonstration has been called by Philly Coalition for REAL Justice to oppose Trump, and we would like to encourage all Antifa who are able to go and lend their support.

Philly Police Officer Outed as White Supremacist with Ties to Blood and Honor

Those of our readers who have been Anti-Fascists for a few years may remember that during a period from 2010-2012 there were several successful hacks of Neo-Nazi websites that led to the identification of dozens of Neo-Nazis and White Nationalists.

One of the more interesting cases was that of Ian Hans Lichterman. Lichterman was listed as a member of Blood and Honour, an international network of Neo-Nazi organizations started by Ian Stuart Donaldson, the lead singer of Skrewdriver. Upon some investigating, it was discovered that Lichterman was also a Philly PD officer who had even recently been commended at a crime stoppers awards ceremony.

Shortly after the hack, Lichterman left the Philly PD and was working as a private security contractor (mercenary) in the middle east for some time, presumably using his connections from his time as a Marine. Recently, at the Philly Coalition for REAL Justice’s march during the DNC, someone noticed that one of the bike cops working the event had some shady tattoos. That cop has been identified as Ian Lichterman, back on duty in Philly.

One was a rather generic Nationalist tattoo of an AR-15 over an american flag with “For God and Country” written above it. That is the motto of the American Legion, a veterans organization that was very sympathetic to Fascism in Europe before WWII.

“The president of the American Legion in 1923 was quoted as saying, ‘If ever needed, the American Legion stands ready to protect our country’s institutions and ideals as the Fascisti dealt with the destructionists who menaced Italy.’ In reply to whether this meant taking over the government, he said ‘Exactly that. The American Legion is fighting every element that threatens our democratic government-soviets, anarchists, I.W.W., revolutionary socialists and every other Red ..Do not forget that the Fascisti are to Italy what the American Legion is to the United States.’”

With wings outstretched and a simplistic design, the partieadler is distinct from the national emblem in every other era of German history, a history that stretches from the reichsadler’s first appearance in the 12th century, to its present design. It is the eagle of Nazi Germany specifically. And the word “fatherland” is also a reference to Nazi rhetoric oft-used to describe Germany during the Third Reich.

Next episode of our Digital Self Defense series is a hand on workshop on PGP email encryption. We think all email should be encrypted by default and that it should be easy and straight forward. Unfortunately it’s not always. So we’re here to help :).

This workshop will focus on getting Open PGP (GPG) set up with an email client.

Learn how to use PGP encryption to communicate securely with your friends, comrades and organizations!

We will briefly go over the basics of email encryption and then get straight into installation. We’ll be using Thunderbird, Enigmail and GPG, the open source implementation of PGP email encryption.

Bring your laptop loaded with Linux, OS X or Windows and we’ll do our best to see you leave with a working encryption setup! Please download /Install Thunderbird and Enigmail to get a good head start.

The Dakota Access pipeline would transport over 500,000 barrels of oil each day across four states. It would cross the Missouri river twice. One crossing occurs half a mile north of the Standing Rock Reservation, at a location of great cultural significance. Pipeline failure is an eventuality, and the Standing Rock Sioux would be the first hit by the tainted water supply (some 10 million down river would also be affected).

A large grassroots campaign killed the northern leg of the KXL pipeline and we can do it again! While many of us are unable to travel to North Dakota, we can still support their struggle with donations and by organizing solidarity rallies. Solidarity rallies send a clear signal: you are not alone and your message is resonating far and wide.

There is a huge human rights violation happening right now in Oaxaca, Mexico. They are shooting students and teachers just because they disagree with the new education reform. We are trying to raise money for those in need of medicine, medical bills for the hundreds that have been injured and for the funeral expenses for those that have passed. The government is corrupt and is periodically targeting and killing innocent students and teachers. We need all the help we can get, and we need all of you.

This will also be a record release party for the “No sun shines here” comp full of all your favorite Philly bands on Ryvvolte Records.

22 Mothers in Deportation Jail Launch Indefinite Hunger Strike

The following is an open letter of demand to Jeh Johnson written by 22 mothers detained at Berks Family Residential Center:

The reason for this letter of demands is to make it known to you that since Monday August 8th we have started an “INDEFINITE HUNGER STRIKE.”

The Immigration Department has made a public announcement stating that in family detention center parents and children are detained no longer than 20 days.

WE WANT TO DISPROVE THIS INFORMATION!!

We are 22 mothers who are detained at Berks Family Residential Center, being mothers who have been from 270 days to 365 days in detention with children ages 2 to 16 years old, depriving them of having a normal life, knowing that we have prior traumas from our countries, risking our own lives and that of our children on the way until we arrived here, having family and friends who would be responsible for us and who are waiting for us with open arms and that immigration refuses to let us out.

Seeing these injustices, we have decided to go on an indefinite hunger strike until we obtain our immediate freedom because all of us left our countries of origin fleeing violence, threats and corruption that not even the government of each of our countries in Central America can control.

On many occasions our children have thought about SUICIDE because of the confinement and desperation that is caused by being here. The teenagers say BEING HERE, LIFE MAKES NO SENSE, THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO BREAK THE WINDOW TO JUMP OUT AND END THIS NIGHTMARE, and on many occasions they ask us if we have the courage to escape.

Other kids grab their IDs and tighten them around their necks and say that they are going to KILL themselves if they don’t get out of here. The youngest kids (2 years old) cry at night for not being able to express what they feel. For a long time, the children have not been eating well, but they have never paid attention to our complaints about the food until now.

We are desperate and we have decided that: WE WILL GET OUT ALIVE OR DEAD.

If it is necessary to sacrifice our lives so that our children can have freedom: WE WILL DO IT! Putting aside the threats we are receiving from one of the psychologists and some doctors in this facility.

We are calling on the government to take action on this matter and open their eyes, letting them know that IMMIGRATION is acting against the law and is mocking them, making arguments that are false; besides our children are entitled to freedom according to the case of Flores, and still they are here with us.

We hope that our voices are heard, so that we can have the FREEDOM that we NEED so much.
