SAVE LAVA FROM WATER DEPT CHUMPS

HELP!!

LAVA Space is a grassroots organizing and media center located in the Belmont neighborhood of Philadelphia. For over two decades the space has served as a place for activist groups and communities to meet, eat and share art and music.

The water department recently cut our water supply off until we jumped through numerous hoops to get a water meter installed. After this was done, we went to pay the bill and found that we were being charged $3571.82 for 10 years of not paying for water. Apparently, in 2008 someone cut the meter out of the water main so that we wouldn’t get billed. We were able to put the debt on a payment plan so that we can pay $450 upfront and then $108 per month for the next 30 months. We’re asking for help as we already have trouble keeping up with other monthly bills and it will be extremely difficult to pay this one on top of the rest.

LAVA was established to provide a meeting space and resources to a neighborhood with serious needs. The downstairs of the building houses a library, weekly produce distribution and an event space that gives a platform to artists and organizations from a wide range of backgrounds. The upstairs is used as affordable office space for groups fighting for social justice (Human Rights Coalition and Radio Prometheus) and the Shark Tank recording studio, which has become an important resource for young musicians in the community.

Please help keep LAVA afloat by donating what you can and sharing this page with your networks.

Thanks!!!

Legal support for Philly May Day arrestees

from Fundrazr

Yesterday, a dedicated organizer, activist, and anti-fascist in Philadelphia was arrested, accused of connection with May Day anti-gentrification protests. They are currently in jail and media reports indicate they will be receiving completely inappropriate charges, including multiple felonies. We should take accounts by the mainstream media and police forces very cautiously. We are greatly in need of funds for bail and legal support, to reunite this person with their family and friends as soon as possible, and keep them that way. Any and all support you are able to give so that we can ensure a timely release and a strong defense are greatly appreciated. This person has put so much work into their community, and it is time for us to rally together and support them.

Tree Climbers in Pennsylvania Fight to Resist the Mariner East 2 Pipeline

From It’s Going Down

Our Camp is in danger from both Sunoco and the Police. The situation is developing rapidly and we need your support! Stay tuned for more updates and help spread the word about this camp.

With construction season upon us, Camp White Pine is digging in our heels to fight the Mariner East 2 pipeline in the Susquehanna Valley of central PA.

The Mariner East 2 is a 350+ mile long Sunoco pipeline project, comprised of two new pipelines starting in southeastern Ohio, and running through northern West Virginia and across the length of Pennsylvania. These lines will carry natural gas liquids (NGLs) like butane, ethane, and propane to an export facility along the Delaware River in Marcus Hook, PA.

Resistance to the Mariner East 2 is spreading, with impacted residents and organizers working in communities all along the proposed route. Sunoco Logistics has no regard for the beauty of Appalachia, the preservation of its diverse ecosystems and the safety of the people who live here.

Philly J20 Solidarity Financial Support Fund

Donate Here

Please donate to Philadelphia area residents who were wrongfully arrested during the January 20th inauguration protests in Washington DC. All funds raised will help pay for defendants’ legal fees, transit and housing costs.

This fund is being used to support people from the Philadelphia region who were wrongfully mass arrested during demonstrations in Washington DC on the day of Trump’s inauguration. On that day, Metro DC police attacked and cornered a large crowd of protestors with brutal, excessive force. Prolonged detainment and mistreatment over the course of 36 hours culminated in an evidence-less blanket felony charge on each of the 230 innocent demonstrators. These antagonistic actions by the state signal a dangerous intent to intimidate and discourage future protest from taking place. All charges should be immediately dropped, and the repression should end now.

Astronomical court and lawyer costs, as well as travel and housing expenses place substantial financial hardships on protestors dealing with baseless felony charges. Backing this fund not only supports those who were unjustly arrested, each donation is also an act of solidarity for those directly under threat from the police simply for their political affiliation and public expression of resistance. These cases will likely set a precedent for the way the Trump administration will handle protest throughout his four year term.

Your donation will directly assist those arrested by allowing defendants to alleviate the financial burdens imposed on them from court, lawyer, travel, and housing costs.

ABOUT:

Mothers Against METH Alliance (M.A.M.A.) out of the Pine Ridge Reservation in so called South Dakota has been fighting the Dakota Access Pipeline from the very beginning alongside with the RED WARRIOR SOCIETY. They are strongly building resistance to colonization in the many forms in which it manifests––in the Black Snake pipelines and addiction in both bodies and minds–wherever resource extraction is imposed onto their land and their people. They see the ways that colonization has attacked them, but as they state: “Our Warriors Are Strong, OUR ARROWS ARE SHARP.” —

Julz Rich — is the founder of Mothers Against METH Alliance (M.A.M.A.) out of Pine Ridge. She is a Lakota Grandmother who works to rid the presence of meth on the reservation. She also founded the MAMA camp at Standing Rock to provide shelter and safety for mothers and children at the camp. She and her loving family are fierce land-defenders who have resisted the first proposed tar sands mine in the (so called) U.S., on Ute territory/Utah. She organizes educational prevention workshops in schools and the community, exposes dealers and meth houses, and all night patrols to give youth safe rides home at night.

Victor Puertas — is a member of the Yagua nation in so called Peru. He is a fierce land and water protector who has been active in direct action mobilization against tar sands mining in Ute territory/Utah and has provided sustained solidarity to Lakota, Diné and other indigenous, anti-colonial and anti-border imperialist struggles.
