Limits and Potentials of Urban Farming: An Ecosocialist Take

    19:00 – 21:00Wooden Shoe Books, 704 South St

A discussion with Salvatore Engel-Dimauro, Ecosocialist Horizons co-founder and Ghani (Kempis Songster) founder of the Redemption Project
The practice of or potential for growing food in cities has been getting a lot of attention lately and for many reasons. But the politics behind the reasons (or motivation) is often not told or not thought about. Some of the push for urban food production actually hides socially oppressive or reactionary motives. Yet, the need for community-controlled food production in urban areas has never been greater. And the stakes have never been higher. We will discuss examples of this contradictory but promising situation and talk about what urban food production could contribute towards building ecosocialist futures, including in Philadelphia.
